A Spending Fast

Have you ever had a moment of clarity when you realize that you're just doing it wrong? I had one of those a few days ago. It's like all of a sudden I got caught up in the world and all of these things became so important to me. I was constantly spending money on things that didn't really matter, like my worth depended on whether or not I had the latest trending purse or the cutest shoes. Now don't get me wrong--there is nothing wrong with shopping or having cute and fun things. The problem is when those things start to take you over and become your main priority. I don't know. I guess what I'm saying is that I kind of lost control of myself, and I didn't like what I was turning into. All I was focusing on was stalking the trendiest blogs to see what fancy thing I would buy next. There are so many other things in life that are more important than clothes and shoes, and sometimes you need to take a step back to realize it. I'm not going to stop posting pictures or give up my fashion blog, however I am going on a little spending fast. So you may see me repeating clothes a lot for the next little while.

With that being said, I am also selling a bunch of my clothes that I don't wear as much. [And I sold my Clare Vivier yesterday. I'm pretty sad about it, but it needed to be done. I've never been one to spend hundreds of dollars on one item anyway, so as much as I loved it, I just didn't really feel like myself.] You can see all of my items for sale on Poshmark HERE. [user name vfarnsworth]

Anyway. Here are a few pictures we took this morning [my last morning with the Clare Vivier, haha] wearing all of my favorite pieces. My favorite shirt, favorite pants, and favorite shoes.

Anyway, that's all I really feel like writing today. And now I'm off to Summer Movies with the kids.

Tomorrow's Friday!

  2. I know exactly how you feel, I went through this a few weeks ago actually. I was getting frustrated because I wanted to buy a lot of new items but it just didn't feel right. My husband has also been trying to get me to not buy so much so we can save to go to Italy next summer.. aren't husbands the greatest? He always gives me a good reality check. I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a piece multiple times on your blog! I honestly think that is more respectable than seeing pieces that are worn once and never again.

    1. I agree! Thanks so much for your comment! It's just silly to think that some people [including myself] will opt to spend money on clothes and bags that don't really matter instead of taking a trip to Italy with their husband! Sometimes you need to take a step back [or have someone like your husband to help you with a reality check.] You guys are great. I'm glad that you were able to realize this as well.

1- HOW did I miss you were selling your CV? Sad day for me
2- You should totally do a 30x30 during your spending freeze!
3- I've said it a million times before but I just love how real you keep it!

  4. Good for you Victoria! I get in those phases a lot where I'm spending, spending, spending to "keep up" with other bloggers. But that's not really what it's about is it? I remember you saying in one of your posts how you rotate clothes because you can't afford to always be buying new ones. It'll be nice to see you pair your favorites in new ways!

    1. Thanks so much for your comment! The whole reason I started this blog in the first place was to show women that it's okay to not spend a fortune on fashion, when you can look just as great in clothes that are affordable. Somewhere along the way, though, I lost sight of that and just wanted to keep up with the super rich bloggers. But hello, I'm not super rich. :) Thanks so much for reading!

  5. Love this, Victoria!
I think it's a reminder everyone needs here and there, myself included!
    Thanks for sharing :)
Also, I love it when I see bloggers repeating clothes in outfits - it's more realistic for me personally and shows how versatile a few great pieces can be.
All the best with you spending fast!

    1. Right?? And that's the thing--we don't have the money that some of these huge bloggers have, so why should we pretend! I love seeing girls who got something great for cheap! I hope you get that clutch and I can't wait to see how you style it!

  9. I feel you!! I took a break from blogging after the wedding - and during the wedding planning process I had no time for stalking blogs and spending money... and now I have time... and it is hard! Good luck!!! You look amazing in all of your clothes and repeats are the best.

    1. Thank you so much, girl! I sometimes have to take a break from some of the blogs that make me feel inadequate. Blogging is about being yourself and expressing your self through fashion. It doesn't mean we have to break the bank! Thanks for reading and for your sweet comments!

  11. I agree with other commenters that seeing how you repeat pieces to get different looks could be very interesting. My dream is only to have pieces in my closet that I LOVE, and to wear them very frequently.

    1. I completely agree. H and I came to the conclusion that we should only be buying things we absolutely can NOT live without. And that's why I've sold a bunch of my stuff, too, because they were things that I spent money on but didn't really LOVE.

      Thanks for reading! Miss you!

  12. I just recently did a huge closet clear out and now I'm sale and bargin hunting to build up my wardrobe (we aren't the same size which makes me sad because I love that floral skirt) But I can't tell you how many Spending Fasts I've failed at. I just can't help it.

  13. There's nothing wrong with taking a step back from shopping dear, I completely understand you! I sometimes do the same as well. Clothing is important but it shouldn't take over your world, like you said. And I bet we won't even notice you'll be repeating some outfits ;)

    1. You are SO right. The whole purpose of my blog was to show women that they can look fabulous in AFFORDABLE clothing. I know what you mean about the spending fast. I have been a bit too purchase crazy since starting to blog. Last month I only bought two things and was so proud of myself! It felt really good and I'm headed to Vegas tomorrow so I was trying to save for that as well. Good look with the fast!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment and support! I swear, fashion blogging is the hardest job I've ever had! It does get so overwhelming and I constantly feel like I have to live up to certain expectations. But in taking a step back, I realized, hey, I don't have to wear $3,000 shoes to be as great as Rachel Parcell, I just have to be myself and let my confidence shine through. Thanks girl!

  23. I felt like that at first too. But then I really stopped to think of who I was and what I love. It's easy to get caught up in, but you have to be true to yourself. Just challenge yourself by shipping in your own closet and remixing new things. I Reese a lot of the same pieces, but in a cinoelltly new way to where it doesn't even look like the dame item sometimes. That's what I do in real life, so I make sure I do it on the blog too and don't get caught up buying things just to wear for one picture and then sell it. Don't stress, everything will be just fine. ; )

They are all covered in the latest trends, they create them and that's the marvel of fashion, the creation!! Not just seeing what's trendy and following it. The girl in the second picture is wonderful, have spotted her in other places, no idea who she is, but I just love her!!Marvelous shots!! Xx
